Beringea fund takes Coal from Wimbledon to world

Private equity and investment banking firm Beringea has invested £1.7 million in emerging restaurant group Coal Restaurants.

The funds will be used to support the chain as it expands nationally from its initial outlet in Wimbledon, southwest London.

Coal’s founder and chief executive John Gater has worked closely with Beringea in the past through Gater’s previous restaurant chain, Ma Potters. The chain was recently sold to Tragus, owners of Café Rouge, for £14.15 million.

Addleshaw Goddard led by Dee Sian & Christian Hyland provided legal advice to Beringea, with K&L Gates and Menzies advising the management on legal and financial issues respectively.
