Tom Benyon, entrepreneurial former Tory MP, well-rewarded past organiser of Lloyd’s insurance market activists and financial publisher, is keeping himself busier than ever these days as prime mover of the Guild of Shareholders.

The Guild aims to bring potential new issue bargains to its subscription-paying members and Benyon is nursing a high-risk/high-reward Malawi and Zimbabwe gold play for their appreciation.

Closer to home, the Guild is helping drum up support for a £500,000 private Enterprise Investment Scheme offer at 10p for Avisis, which produces a high-tech ‘interactive video weighing scale’. The scales would be available in stores and such places, cashing in on current obesity fears and incorporating an LCD flat screen to show advertising messages.

Raising the full £500,000 (net of ten per cent expenses) would put a value of £6.4 million on Brighton-based Avisis, run by advertising man Paul Roche and chaired by property veteran John Kottler. Avisis immodestly cites illustrative projections of profits rising from £500,000 this year to £3.3 million in 2007.
