Benchmark seals Ricall deal

Benchmark Capital, an early backer of internet success story eBay, has contributed a multi-million pound investment in commercial music licensor Ricall.

UK-based Ricall’s website acts as a unique online marketplace between professional buyers and sellers of music, facilitating the licensing of upcoming and hit music for any business use, including brand sponsorship, ads, mobile phones, games, TV programmes, films, websites and in-store audio.

It intends to use the new money to expand its commercial music user network, market its brand and develop proprietary technology. Benchmark’s investment is ‘a huge vote of confidence,’ believes Richard Corbett, chief executive of Ricall.

Ynon Kreiz, general partner at Benchmark Capital Europe, who has joined Ricall’s board, claims it has ‘created a market-leading online service that has proven its value to an impressive and growing client base. Ricall is poised for rapid expansion and we are delighted to be able to play a meaningful part in that.’
