Website design and hosting service BaseKit has raised $6.5 million (£4 million) in venture capital ahead of a series of international office openings across Europe and the Americas.

Nauta Capital, Eden Ventures and the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts (NESTA) committed to the second round funding, which brings the total secured for the British-based company to $10 million in the past year.

The funding will enable BaseKit to open new offices in Barcelona, Sao Paolo, Mexico, Buenos Aires and San Francisco after launching in London in early 2009, a statement from the company said.

BaseKit, a winner of the NESTA-sponsored start-up business initiative Seedcamp in 2008, enables businesses and individuals to host, create and manage their own websites using templates and tools.

Juan Lobato, chief executive at BaseKit comments, ‘We are poised to take full advantage of that potential in the market, and will be using the additional funding from Nauta Capital, Eden Ventures and NESTA to accelerate our international roll-out.’

Carles Ferrer, general partner with Nauta adds, ‘We are delighted to be partnering with BaseKit as it fits perfectly in our portfolio from an industry vertical and market expansion perspective. We look forward to helping the company move to the next stage.’
