Automattic acquires Polldaddy and other deals news

US-based Automattic, the company behind Internet blogging tool WordPress, has acquired Irish start-up Polldaddy, a venture that creates surveys and polls for web blogs, for an undisclosed sum.

  • British Gas owner Centrica has acquired Building Management System Integrators, a company that installs systems to increase energy efficiency in buildings, for £7 million
  • Global private equity group Advent International has agreed to acquire the card-processing activities of Experian France, resulting in the creation of a new entity. The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed
  • International company Microchip Technology has acquired Hampshire Company Inc, a US provider of touchscreen controller technology, for an undisclosed sum
  • India-based Financial Technologies has acquired a significant equity stake in Audit Control & Expertise Global Group, a UK-based credit support organisation providing collateral control, field audits, inspection, monitoring and financial structuring services in the finance sector. The terms of the deal were undisclosed
  • US global software corporation Novell has acquired new service management capabilities with the purchase of Managed Objects, which allows IT departments to manage the availability of applications and services they deliver. The details of the deal have not been revealed
  • US-based waterjet and precision machinery service RPG Industries has acquired a 21 per cent stake in iron ore producer Ferrexpo, which has assets in Ukraine and Europe. No further details were disclosed
  • CIC LBO Partners, a human resources consultancy, has backed the management buy-out of PR and human resources advisory firm ORC Image et Stratégies d’Employeur, alongside CM-CIC Capital Privé. No further details were disclosed
  • Modern Times Group, an international broadcasting group, has completed the acquisition of Bulgarian TV channel Nova Televizia. The terms of the deal were undisclosed
  • US-based Winshuttle, a provider of data entry and data download tools for SAP users, has announced the acquisition of ADAR, a leading French distributor of data management tools. No further details were provided
  • Computer services provider Curtiss-Wright Controls has acquired VMETRO ASA for approximately US$72 million (£41 million). VMETRO is a supplier of computer products for applications used in the aerospace, defense, industrial, communication and medical markets. The terms of the deal were undisclosed

Deals in the pipeline

  • Several private equity firms, an unnamed Asian oligarch and UK retail veteran Sir Philip Green are understood to be vying for all, or some of the parts of Icelandic retailer Baugur. It is understood that the sale depends on whether Baugur receives funds from an International Monetary Fund bail-out of Iceland
