Online cash trivia company Amuso has raised $1.5 million (£900,000) from an existing investor and a number of business angels.

The funding round was led by Mangrove Capital Partners, the principal backer at Amuso’s launch in 2007, and will enable the company to open new headquarters in London while its development arm remains in Barcelona.

Amuso’s multiplayer online game Trivia Star was launched in June and allows users to play for free or pay a small fee for the chance to win cash prizes. The company has commercial partnerships with companies such as AOL, MySpace and Associated Newspapers.

Founder and CEO Barak Rabinowitz says the cash trivia sector provides social networks, publishers and even bloggers with ‘an attractive new way to monetise their online and mobile audiences’.
