AES provides tailored weather solutions to around half of Fortune 500 companies in its role as the corporate arm of the business. It will be integrated with Oklahoma-based WeatherBank to create a sister site with the AES Severe Weather Centre in Wichita.
Barry Lee Myers hailed the deal as a way to deliver “forecasting capabilities and services for businesses around the world”.
“We welcome the WeatherBank team and value their long-standing expertise, excellent reputation and respect, and specialised forecasting advancements, supporting our continued growth as the world’s leading weather company,” he added.
Myers also called WeatherBank CEO Steve Root “one of the most respected leaders in the weather industry”. Root added that merger will combine WeatherBank’s “capabilities with the global reach of AccuWeather”.
“We are combining the strengths and services of both companies which are unavailable from any other source in the weather industry,” he said.
