Capita will continue its aquisition spree following Monday’s £40 million takeover of Vertex’s private sector operations with the purchase of Cedar HR Software for £15 million.

Cedar was a subsidiary of the Advanced Computer Software Group and specialises in providing human resource management software to UK police forces.

Its products are used by 30 of the UK’s 53 forces and its largest clients including Greater Manchester, North Yorkshire and Thames Valley police.

Capita will use the Cedar acquisition together with last year’s takeover of SunGard Public Sector and Beat Systems Ltd earlier this year, to drive further int ot the outsroucing market for police forces, which are being told to make substantial back office cuts under het government ‘s spending review.

Andy Parker, joint chief operating officer of the Capita Group said: ‘This acquisition adds both innovation and breadth to our solutions for police forces. It will allow us to offer a full, end to end, back office solution integrating payroll, rostering and scheduling, finance and procurement; in essence a platform for transformation in what is an important new market for Capita.”

Cedar made an operating profit £2 million on turnover of £6.2 million last year.
