Wabtec makes UK locomotive acquisition

US-based Wabtec Corporation has acquired Brush Traction, which provides locomotive overhauls and components, in a deal worth $31 million (£19 million).

Based in the East Midlands and East Ayrshire, Brush Traction services trains including those used in the Eurotunnel.

Wabtec has a subsidiary company located in South Yorkshire, Wabtec Rail, which will work alongside Brush Traction, according to a statement released by the company.

Albert Neupaver, Wabtec’s president and chief executive officer comments: ‘With its focus on the locomotive aftermarket, Brush Transaction is a strategic complement to our Wabtec Rail unit, which offers mainly transit car refurbishment.’

Brush Traction in the East Midlands will be known as “Brush Traction part of the Wabtec Rail Group”, with the Brush Barclay East Ayrshire Works becoming Wabtec Rail Scotland.
