Optegra takes German Augentis

Private eye care group Optegra aims to expand further into continental Europe after acquiring German ophthalmic services provider, Augentis.

The Berlin-based company has four clinics in the German capital, which will added to Optegra’s network of five hospitals in the UK that are located in Surrey, Solent, Birmingham, Manchester and Yorkshire. Ophthalmology is the treatment of eye disease and physical problems with eye anatomy.

Ophthalmic surgeon Dr Febrer-Bowen, who founded Augentis, will become managing director for Optegra Germany. Both companies provide eye care treatments including laser refractive surgery, cataract removal, retinal disease therapy and general eye medical conditions.

Optegra is owned by buy-and-build investor Moonray Healthcare. Moonray chief executive Tim Clover says Optegra will continue to expand into Germany and aims to enter the Chinese market.
