Agricultural chemicals manufacturer Mitsui AgriScience International (MASI) is to acquire the Irish company AgriGuard.

Dublin-based AgriGuard produces a range of chemicals for the arable crop sector including herbicides and pesticides. The acquisition, which was for an undisclosed sum, will include the range of AgriGuard products with their associated intellectual property as well as the transfer of staff.

AgriGuard’s managing director, Brian Parker, comments: ‘This acquisition by Mitsui is very exciting and provides significant growth opportunities for AgriGuard especially in continental Europe.  We look forward to working with Mitsui and alongside their crop protection subsidiaries to further develop chemicals for the arable sector.’

Belgium-based MASI, a subsidiary of Japanese group Mitsui & Co, currently owns agrochemical distribution companies in Europe including Certis Europe and Spiess Urania. AgriGuard will trade alongside Certis Europe’s UK business but will continue to be managed separately.

MASI’s managing director Toshiyuki Kubota says: ‘We are pleased to have concluded this agreement and to welcome AgriGuard as part of Mitsui’s agrochemical business in Europe. The acquisition is very positive for our business and helps us to meet our growth aspirations in this region.’
