Carpetright chairman and CEO Lord Harris has certainly done something right and, according to Ernst & Young, it’s business.
The head of Europe’s largest carpet retailer walked off with the Big Four accounting firm’s Entrepreneur of the Year award earlier this month.
Having won the Master Entrepreneur award, Harris competed for the UK-wide prize against other category winners such as Young Entrepreneur of the Year Matthew Riley of Daisy Communications. He will now go on to vie for the title of World Entrepreneur of the Year.
Harris’s ambitious plans for Carpetright include the expansion of its current retail store portfolio from around 600 to 800 in a bid for 35 per cent of a market worth £1.8 billion.
Moreover, Carpetright has announced that it has received a takeover approach from a group led by Lord Harris, which at £12.50 per share values the company at £850 million.
