Oxford Instruments plc, a developer of tools for the scientific research industry, has bought VeriCold Technologies, a German manufacturer of cryogen-free products.

The deal expands Oxford’s range of low temperature and high magnetic field instruments and was made as part of a strategy to double the company’s size within five years.

Cryogen-free products remove the need for expensive and difficult to handle liquefied gases and introduce a new range of refrigerators to Oxford’s business to use in academic research.

VeriCold director Dr Jens Hoehne said this deal will help develop the business and support its products. “In addition, this will allow us to compete in attractive new markets for our products such as quantum computing and airport security that will drive our next stage of business growth.”
