The acquisition will secure 32 jobs at Merlin, a Nottingham-based producer of corrugated sheet board and ancillary packaging.

Accountant Deloitte was brought in to find a buyer for the company following mounting losses at the group’s Stoke-on-Trent division.

Jarrow-based Rosewood designs and manufactures timber crates, packing cases and pallets for industrial clients.

The company plans to treble its turnover and staff numbers following the acquisition. Managing director Stephen Lord said: “I am confident that the acquisition of the Merlin company will be a sound business decision for Rosewood. It adds further strength to our position.”
