A luxury lighting company that includes royalty and governments among its clients has bought two companies – its first acquisitions since it started trading some 120 years ago. Dernier & Hamlyn (D&H) targeted Tindle Lighting and Reid Lighting to expand its range of products and services.

A luxury lighting company that includes royalty and governments among its clients has bought two companies – its first acquisitions since it started trading some 120 years ago. Dernier & Hamlyn (D&H) targeted Tindle Lighting and Reid Lighting to expand its range of products and services.

The financial terms of the deals have not been disclosed but they were backed with funding from private equity and buy-out fund Endless, which has taken a shareholding in the enlarged group.

Tindle is a light fittings specialist while Reid is a crystal lighting business. Buying these companies creates a group that will provide more products and services to its international clients, particularly in the hotel industry.

D&H’s chief executive, James Hall, says there is a growing demand for a full-service approach to prestigious design projects: ‘For the first time, when we design and manufacture a chandelier as a centrepiece for the foyer of a luxury hotel, we can also provide high-quality lighting for every room. The market for these and similar projects is growing strongly from New York to Dubai, from Singapore to London.’

The company was advised by Nicola Stapleton of law firm Herbert Mallam Gowers, while Endless was assisted with its investment by Simon Cuerden of Irwin Mitchell.

London-based D&H is a designer and manufacturer of light fittings for contemporary and historic buildings. Its recent projects include the first new chandelier at St Paul’s Cathedral for more than 300 years with other examples of its work found at Windsor Castle, Number 10 Downing Street and the Cabinet Office in Whitehall.

It also provides restoration and cleaning services.
