The Fitzroy Square hospital which was formerly known as St. Luke’s is situated just off Euston Road between both Great Portland Street and Warren Street tube stations. The hospital itself has a rich and intriguing history dating as far back as 1904 when two houses in Fitzroy Square were acquired, rebuilt and opened. The first rebuilt house was opened by Queen Alexandra while the second was rebuilt and opened by Queen Mary in 1923. The location will now become the principle placement in the UK for cosmetic surgery.
The hospital has had many royal visitors over the years including the Queens Mother Elizabeth who visited the hospital in 1957. Travel twenty years later and another member of the royal family, Princess Alexandra, came to the hospital for its seventieth anniversary back in 1977. In 1992, Her Royal Highness revisited Fitzroy Square to share in St. Luke’s birthday celebrations.
A major redevelopment and refurbishment began in 1994 and was completed in 1995 on 17 January. Once the refurbishment of St. Luke’s was completed, the Archbishop of Canterbury rededicated the Hospital. St. Luke’s saw more visits from members of the royal family when Her Majesty the Queen and her husband, the Duke of Edinburgh, returned to officially re-open the hospital on the 8 March.
St. Luke’s quickly became one of the best equipped hospitals in London after another refurbishment was completed in 2007 which cost £3.7 million. St. Luke’s hospital was re-named as BMI Fitzroy Square Hospital in 2009 when General Healthcare Group (GHG) acquired the hospital.
Most recently, MYA, one of the most popular and trusted cosmetic surgery providers in the UK leased the entire facility for 21 years on the 28 February 2014. The hospital is set to become MYA’s flagship London location.
The hospital is said to be in top notch condition although work is still required with regards to CQC registration which involves fully equipping and making the hospital functional as well as recruiting key clinical personnel. MYA will soon make the new and improved Fitzroy Square Hospital into a productive place that offers both excellent service and experience for patients.
