‘£50 entrepreneur’ Chris Hillary launches new crowdfunding campaign with Hydratem8

More conventional fundraising campaign for fitness-focused entrepreneur as he aims to raise capital for product to monitor daily hydration.

Chris Hillary, the entrepreneur who recently started a business with just £50, has launched a crowdfunding campaign for his new product Hydratem8.

Back in May Hillary gave himself just one week and a budget of £50 to launch his last business Fitnessmixes.com. On this occasion he has taken a slightly more conventional approach by running a campaign on Crowdfunder.

But he is sticking with his lean approach to launching a product by setting a modest target of £4,000. Hillary has recently found an investor who will back his MOQ so the money raised on the crowdfunding site will be put towards “building an online platform to sell the bottle, marketing campaign, building the brand and so on”.

As a fitness instructor, Hillary says he was inspired to design Hydratem8 when he observed that his clients regularly fail to drink the recommended eight glasses of water a day. The product is a drinking bottle that measures how much the user has drunk so they can monitor their daily hydration.

Hillary sees failing to take on enough water leading to various medical complaints as well as affecting their athletic performance.

“The majority of my clients who didn’t drink the recommended daily intake suffered from headaches, upset stomach and bad skin,” he told Growth Business.

“I believe if people had a water bottle which helped them drink the daily allowance then this would benefit them hugely immediately as well as the long run.”

So far around £1,000 has been raised and the Kent-based entrepreneur is hoping for a final push to take him to his target. He is also hoping to add a philanthropic aspect to his business.

“I am currently trying to find a water charity to partner with as i am looking to donate £1 to charity for each bottle sold. I would like to find a charity that supplies water to countries less fortunate,” he said.

“I will be looking to find retail outlets who will stock my bottle to try and get it to as many people as possible.”
