NewVoiceMedia closes £2.5 million second round

Call centre technology business NewVoiceMedia has secured £2.5 million of growth capital in a second round of funding from existing investors Notion Capital and Eden Ventures.

The fresh investment follows a £4 million first round financing in the Basingstoke-based company from both venture capital firms in May last year that funded an aggressive international expansion strategy.

Founded in 2000 by Ashley Unitt and Richard Pickering, NewVoiceMedia services 250 call centres in 11 countries with its cloud-based technology. According to a company statement, its 3,000 agents make more than 100 million calls a year.

NewVoiceMedia chief executive Jonathan Gale comments that the company will greatly benefit from the increasing number of call centre managers moving to cloud-based products.

Gale adds, ‘We are acquiring first time customers that would not consider an on-premise solution as well as customers who are either supplementing their in-house solution or transitioning their entire contact centre strategy to the cloud.’

He points to research from Gartner Research that predicts at least 75 per cent of customers will use some form of software-as-a-service (SaaS) application in their call centres by 2013.

Chris Tottman, partner at Notion Capital, which was launched by MessageLabs co-founders Jos and Ben White, says, ‘The cloud represents a generational shift in technology that we haven’t seen since the rise of the PC in the 90’s, driven by the demand for services that are not tethered to a particular device or location.

‘NewVoiceMedia is using the power of the cloud to provide a better alternative to traditional contact centre solutions that are all too often both expensive and complex.’
